Shania.com - Sells for $10,100

July 28th, 2008

The first name domain, Shania.com sold on NameJet yesterday for $10,100. The name is famously associated with the recording artist, Shania Twain. Although popular names (both first and last) always tend to do well on the aftermarkets, I am beginning to question their real end-user appeal. The chances of having some crazy millionaire buy a domain name like Shania.com off of you for mid xx,xxx is seemingly more farfetched then perhaps I earlier thought.

Besides being a Novelty, is there a huge advantage to owning onces name domain? I cant tell you how much I would love to own Justin.com or Allen.com - but would I be willing to pay what is market value for those domains? Of course not. Its cost value is not worth its actual value to me. I believe resellers are driving up prices on these types of domain names, with very little chance of end-user sales.

As Suspected, Free Domain at Godaddy Promo Closed

July 24th, 2008

When giving away a free domain name, you need to be careful about the rules you set. For Godaddy, they forgot to set any rules. Sign up for an new email address and setup a new account and you could take advantage of their unlimited free domain registrations. Many people who caught on started registering quite a few domain names for free. Godaddy had failed to put a limit or any stipulations on the free registration.

So, its no surprise that within 24 hours, they closed that part of the promotion altogether.

Godaddy offers free Domains

July 23rd, 2008

In an effort to increase Indycar and Godaddys spam lists, they are offering a free domain registration at Godaddy. Simply go to the link here and sign up to be spammed:

http://indycarrewards.com/

As you might imagine, clever domainers took advantage of this generous offering and cleaned up with quite a few free registrations. I heard some as many as 10-12 free domain registrations each. Might want to hurry up and get on this action before they close this door, soon.

More Stolen Domains

July 22nd, 2008

Recently it has come to light that a few prominent domain names have been stolen, including a 3 letter .com, ZRU.com. It appears the thief is using IP addresses from Turkey and may very well be the same entity that was involved with the “9mm” incident. Make sure your accounts are secured and monitored frequently to insure against possible theft.

Contrary to Popular belief: Contrary.com Sells for $10,363

July 21st, 2008

Contrary.com sold today for $10,363 on the NameJet platform. I happened to have loved this domain name as it has so many development possibilities. I think although on the higher end of the spectrum, this one may very well be a good buy. Congrats to the new owner.

GoPlay.com - $26,300 On NameJet

July 21st, 2008

GoPlay.com closed today at NameJet for $26,300. Another overpriced domain name.  None of the TLDs are developed and even the keywords aren’t heavily advertised. I love this domain name, but at this price I just dont see it being a smart acquisition.

The Fate of Video.us

July 17th, 2008

DomainWeek.com reported today that Video.us which had been sold for $18,000 within the past year was re-auctioned off today at noon. It closed for $12,000. $6,000 less then it had just less than a year ago.
What does this mean in regards to the .us ccTLD? It doesnt look strong. With the economy still in recession and .com the clear king of the internet, .us has become the poor mans TLD. Its ususally a last resort behind the general TLDs and unless we see some major development, I believe its value will primarily be linked to resellers flipping back and fourth.

NameBio Upgrades

July 15th, 2008

As you’ve noticed, we’ve been a bit quiet on the blog side. I wanted to inform and update you guys on some new stuff we have been working on. Soon NameBio will launch a new subscription service that will provide our customers with a list of available domain names, everyday. Those available domain names will be from  TLD’s from other sold domain names.

For instance, lets say that a .com domain sells on NameJet today for $4,000. We then check to see what other TLD’s are available for that keyword. If say the .org is available, you’ll receive an email notice that we believe it is a “buy” at registration costs. The subscription service will be very reasonable at $7.95 per month (about the cost of a domain registration).

We have some new features as well - and expect to see a new style. If you have suggestions, now is the best time as we still may be able to include them in this update.
