String of Unpaid Auctions at NameJet

May 31st, 2008

Currently, there are a couple domain names back at auction (at NameJet) that had previously sold, but must not have ever been paid for. The domains are:

8-0.com and ChicagoParks.com

Both sold for big chips, ChicagoParks.com for $10,100 and 8-0.com for $7,066. You may recall that in a previous blog post I commented that the domain name was overpriced and sold for too much. It will be interested to see what this domain name finaly ends at tomorrow, its current high bid is $6,655. I’ll update further tomorrow.

LLL.com’s Continue to show solid growth.

May 29th, 2008

With the Great Domains auction having been concluded, we can report the initial sales figures for several LLL.com

VKO.COM  9,700 USD
XTD.COM 10,000 USD
YIB.COM 10,000 USD
QWA.COM  9,700 USD
VNY.COM 9,100 USD
RNI.COM 16,000 USD
OHN.COM 13,550 USD
RXL.COM 8,920 USD
ATO.COM 28,000 USD

The lowest selling price of a LLL.com at auction was RXL.com for $8,920 and the lowest selling LLL.com this past month was SNQ.com for $7,001 - which appears to have been a steal. With the recent sales of what are considered weaker letters, I feel confident in saying that the wholesale price of an LLL.com is approximately $8,250 and that anything below that mark may very well be considered a “buy”.

Furthermore, I expect LLL.com sales to continue to make solid gains and beat my expectations of $10,000 minimum wholesale pricing by the end of the year.

TOA.com - Sells for $35,300 on NameJet

May 28th, 2008

A premium LLL.com, TOA.com sold for $35,300 on NameJet. It started the day off with about $14,000 worth of bids but finnished strong from a bidding war of two bidders who took it from $21,000 to where it ended at 35k. This was a strong buy, but for a reseller this money will be tough to recoup anytime soon. Congrats to the new owner, they paid and got a beauty.

Hanging with Celebs

May 26th, 2008

Perhaps the title is a bit misleading, however last night at the Monarchy fashion show (at Suede in Scottsdale, AZ) we rubbed elbows with none other then Frankie Muniz. He’s an actor best known for his starring roll in Malcolm in the Middle. My girlfriend had a new years resolution this year to meet a celeberity and this was a perfect opportunity for her to actually accomplish a resolution. A good friend of ours politely went up to him, and explained the situation. He was nice enough to comply and introduced himself to my girlfriend. Shortly there after he moved quickly and quietly to the other end of the club.

It was a fun night all and all, but I had to know one thing. Did Frankie own his domain name? Negative. FrankieMuniz.com is parked and clearly infringing on his celebrity with links to photographs of him and even advertised his email address. The whois for that registrar is also not resolving which makes it impossible to see who actually owns this domain name. However, it will be up to Frankie if he should pursue ownership of the domain name or not.

Clash.com - Coming to a close - Currently at $18,500

May 25th, 2008

With about 2 hours remaining at auction, Clash.com has gotten some major attention in the domain industry. Discussions about the origins of drops and questions about the “disputed” domain status the domain was in. However, Clash.com will find a new owner in the next few hours, and I could see this one going up a lot more.

Comparing values between TLDs

May 24th, 2008

In our industry, there are a few truths. One of those truths is that .com is king. It sells for the most and is in greatest demand. A very common question that is asked is how much are the different TLDs worth, for the same keyword. If the .com sells for X then what percent can you expect the .net or .org to sell for? The reason this question is difficult to answer is because typically domain names dont sell at the same time, or under the same market conditions.

For instance, lets say I own BuffaloWings.com (I dont) and I sell it privately to someone for $1500. Next year the .net sells for $2,000 at a drop auction. I didnt sell the domain in the truest market conditions (a public auction) and thus, sold for only what I agreed was a fair price. It also sold a  year prior to the .net - making the two numbers impossible to compare.

Occasionally we get an example where 2 domains are sold under as identical market conditions as you can ask for. Today the domain names ArmsRace.com and ArmsRace.org sold at NameJet after dropping. The .com sold for $630 while the .org sold for $79.  Both of them closed within an hour of eachother and both of them were widely available with plenty of bidders.

Its a common acknowledgment amongst domainers that the .net is about 10% the value of the .com. I personally feel the .net will vary between 7-15% . However with todays comparison between .com and .org - I think we are seeing gains on the .org side. Although it is nearly impossible to accurately gauge value differences on such a small pool of data, I think .orgs are quietly approaching .net values.

MKC.com - Closes at $11,000 on NameJet

May 24th, 2008

MKC.com just wouldnt quit. The auction kept extending everytime there was less than a minute remaining. I personally bid the domain name upwards of $9,200 but after that, it was 3 other bidders who had to have this quality LLL.com. The final sales price at $11,000 was in my opinion a little under what the market price should have been. I valued this one at $12-14k. I imagine the owner will need to hold this one for a bit before any profitable resale is even possible. Congrats to the new owner.

Sometimes they just make you smile - Assholes.org closing tomorrow at NameJet

May 23rd, 2008

Many people in this world could be classified as an Asshole. People who think of nothing besides themselves, they cut you off in traffic, and generally cause mass frustration. Tomorrow at NameJet, Assholes.org will have a new owner. That new owner will be entrusted with the key to uniting all assholes under one banner. Currently at $550 with 54 bidders, I hope we get to see some action but we all know no matter what the price, some asshole is gonna get this one.

8-0.com remains undefeated - Selling for $7,066

May 22nd, 2008

I had been watching this domain name for sometime as well. It has a really nice flair to it and obviously a rarity being a N-N.com Its also a good set of numbers, as it could be a score to a game qute easily, or even a record. I think it shot up a bit high - considering what L-L are trading at but congrats to the new owner.

Aparthotels.com sells for $27,100 - on NameJet

May 22nd, 2008

This domain name caught on with some serious bidding, driving it upwards of nearly $30,000 dollars. A bit surprising while many of the big timers are spending there days at TRAFFIC in Orlando, FL.  On another interesting note - those .mobi lovers out there, Aparthotels.mobi is avail. Lets see if it remains that way.
